Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl

This 1946 book is an autobiography chronicling Viktor Frankl’s experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps during World War II.

He describes how he found meaning, despite all odds. He believes that the fundamental human drive is to find meaning, not pleasure, through courage, love, and purpose.

You’ll realize that although you have experienced hardships, you’re still here, alive, with endless potential.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R Covey

This self-help book outlines an approach to personal and professional effectiveness based on holding key principles. He emphasizes the importance of fairness, dignity, and integrity.

You’ll stop and think about your own habits, and how you can reshape them. You might just find that you haven’t been living your most optimal life.

Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

In this book, Daniel Kahneman explains human decision-making through two systems. System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional. System 2 is slow, logical, and deliberate. In this summary of his life’s work, you will learn how these systems interact.

Oftentimes, we hold biases and errors in judgment that affect personal and professional choices. This book will uncover those limitations and teach you how to improve at them. It addresses the fact that humans are still animals, with impulses and emotions, despite rational socialization.

The Stranger by Albert Camus

This is a fictional novel about an ordinary man who gets drawn into a senseless murder. It is a philosophical book of existentialism. We follow the main character through a mental breakdown crisis as he realizes that the world around him is crazy. He grapples with his desire to close himself off from the world that he lives in.

You may examine your own empathy towards others and your worldview.

Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche

This philosophy book rejects the tradition of Western thought and its notions of good and evil. It challenges traditional black-and-white morality for something more greyscale. Good and evil are not absolute, and they are man-made, often for some power gain.

This book will encourage you to reevaluate your values and perspective. If you long to become a free spirit, you should reject binary thinking. After all, the villain is never the villain in their own story.
